At the heart of every vibrant community are people who care—those who give their time, energy and resources to help others grow and succeed. The Carson Valley Sertoma Club is proud to be one of those organizations, quietly making a big impact through two remarkable scholarship programs that support the dreams of local students.
Each spring, the club proudly honors the achievements and ambitions of young people in Douglas County with two scholarship programs designed not just to reward academic success, but to recognize character, service and dedication to community.
Taking the Burden Out of Textbook Costs
College can be an exciting new chapter—but for many students, the rising cost of textbooks adds stress to what should be a time of growth and opportunity. The Carson Valley Sertoma Club created the Memorial Book Scholarship to help ease that burden.
Specifically geared toward graduates of Douglas County high schools, this unique scholarship ensures that recipients never have to pay out-of-pocket for their college textbooks. Better yet, the scholarship is renewable for up to four years and is distributed each semester to ensure consistent support.
Supporting Hands-On Careers
College isn't the only path to success, and the club recognizes that. Its Vocational Scholarship is aimed at students pursuing careers through vocational training programs, a vital but often overlooked segment of education.
Whether a student is learning to become an auto technician, nurse, chef, welder, electrician, cosmetologist or any number of hands-on professions, this scholarship helps cover the cost of program fees and materials. It's an investment not only in students but in the future workforce of the club’s community.
Every May, the club gathers to celebrate its scholarship recipients at a special recognition breakfast. This year, nine outstanding students were awarded scholarships—each one a reflection of what’s possible when a community comes together to support its young people.
