#MemberMonday: Introducing New Diversity & Inclusion Training Resources

By Brandi McGrath Kong, Director of Member Services

Diversity and Inclusion – we’ve all heard the words and maybe we even have a vague understanding of what they mean. However, making this complex topic a strategic priority is relatively new to many nonprofit and service organizations, including Sertoma. Most of us can acknowledge that such an undertaking is a long-time coming and important if our clubs are to survive, grow and thrive. We want to become and remain relevant to future generations of Americans and Canadians seeking opportunities to give back through Service to Mankind.

In an effort to help our clubs address challenging discussions around the topic of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, we have put together a series of four short development videos you can share with your members. These conversation-starting sessions provide a brief overview on diversity and inclusion terminology, the role your leadership plays in the process, ways to incorporate DEI best practice in your communication and marketing efforts, and how to measure what DEI success would look like for your club.

You can access those videos on the Diversity & Inclusion page in the Training Library. The page also includes a downloadable DEI Resources Index to help you explore the topic even further.

It’s important that our organization and its leaders reflect the communities that we serve. In the coming year, I plan to develop additional resources on the topic to help our clubs and members continue their DEI journey. If you have ideas for additional trainings and resources that would be useful to your club, please don’t hesitate to email me at bmcgrathkong@sertoma.org.
