Thanks to a Community Grant from Sertoma, the South Carolina School of the Deaf and the Blind (SCSDB) was able to purchase 140 hearing aid cleaning kits to share with its students. The SCSDB Foundation is a national Affiliate member and is sponsored by the Uptown Sertoma Club of Spartanburg.
The kits provided SCSDB with the opportunity to educate its students and staff about how to use the various tools to care for and sanitize hearing aids. Most students received one-on-one training on the use of contents of the kit.
“The hearing aid kits were well received by students as well as staff,” said SCSDB Audiologist Pam Brown. “Having this accessory helps students feel in control and enabled to take care of their devices, and therefore, their hearing needs.”
Sixty-six students were gifted with the cleaning kits during the initial round of training. SCSDB has shared its remaining stock across its four campuses to meet the future needs of incoming students.
“The kits will be very useful to staff, students and their families now and in the future,” Brown noted. “I am very much appreciative of this gift.”
