Our members always love looking back at Sertoma’s monumental history to learn about the many contributions our organization has made to the world. Please join me for another walk down memory lane as we commemorate some noteworthy anniversaries happening this year.
90 Years Ago...
In 1934, the New Orleans Club and past International Director Warren V. Miller introduced a resolution for the club to sponsor a football contest held in New Orleans over the Christmas holiday season. This event became known as the Sugar Bowl.
60 Years Ago…
Sertoma held its first International Convention outside the United States in 1964 when the annual meeting came to Mexico City.
40 Years Ago…
President Ronald Reagan presented Sertoma with the Presidential Private Sector Initiative Commendation Certificate in 1984. This award celebrated ‘outstanding civic responsibility’ displayed by our members and was also supported by Senator John Glenn.
20 Years Ago…
Over the course of 2004, Sertoma began work on SAFEEars!®, an awareness program for the prevention of noise-induced hearing loss (NIHL). The program would officially launch in January of the next year.
