For over 23 years, the Gateway Sertoma Club has remained steadfast in its mission to support the delivery of free meals to seniors in the Lincoln, Neb., area. This enduring commitment to Service to Mankind has made a profound impact—ensuring that countless individuals in need receive the vital nutrition they might otherwise go without. The club's dedication continues to be a shining example of compassion, community service and care for some of our most vulnerable neighbors.
The club works hand-in-hand with Tabitha’s Meals on Wheels program to ensure that seniors receive weekday lunches, allowing residents to remain safe and live independently in their homes. According to Tabitha, the club covers meals for over 80% of those recipients who cannot afford to cover the full cost of the delivered lunches. Much of the funding comes from the club’s hugely popular golf event held each summer.
This year’s tournament saw 29 teams raise more than $50,000 to benefit the Meals on Wheels program. This is the equivalent of 5,714 much-needed meals for the program. Tabitha said that this kind of support is especially critical now due to the rising food and workforce costs that have significantly impacted their budget. In fact, the nonprofit program reported they are operating at a $700,000 deficit for 2025.
"This event is proof that community is everything," said Tabitha Foundation Vice President Jeff McGinn. "Because of the kindness and generosity, Tabitha Meals on Wheels can fill the gap for hundreds of seniors who need our support. We are so fortunate to have such great sponsors, businesses and individuals join with us tomake this event and the Tabitha Meals on Wheels program possible."
The Gateway Sertoma Golf Event has been an annual mainstay since 2002. The tournament has raised nearly $1 million in support of Tabitha Meals on Wheels. Celebrating their 64th anniversary this year, the club has also contributed more than $1.5 million in support of philanthropic causes throughout its Nebraska community.
