The Sertoma Mission
For more than a century, Sertomans have been at the forefront of volunteer service in communities throughout North America. In fact, this long-standing passion for giving back is woven into the fabric of our organization and within our very name: SERvice TO MAnkind.
Since 1963, Sertoma International has championed a national hearing health mission dedicated to serving the more than 50 million Americans living with hearing loss through volunteerism, stewardship, impactful programs and informational resources. Guided by this commitment, we believe that everyone should have access to the necessary care and tools to fully participate and thrive in their personal and professional lives.
Today, we proudly support those in need through the Hearing Aid Project, promote hearing safety with initiatives like SAFEEars!, support other hearing health nonprofits through our Community and Professional Education grants, foster opportunities for deaf and hard of hearing students with Sertoma Scholarships, and much more. You can learn more about what we do here.
However, Sertoma’s hearing health mission work doesn’t stop at the international level. It is found in communities throughout the United States and Canada thanks to the efforts of our local clubs. These clubs are leading and supporting critical initiatives including hearing and speech clinics, robust hearing screening programs, camps for deaf and hard of hearing children, scholarship programs and more.
Helping others truly is the unifying purpose that all Sertomans share. Sertoma clubs are empowered to think beyond hearing health and choose their own local missions and service programs, addressing the unique needs of their communities. These efforts range from supporting youth and veterans to leading community improvement projects and assisting underserved populations. Through this meaningful, hands-on service and monetary support, Sertoma clubs truly serve as the heartbeat of their towns and cities.
