Molly Prendergast has always carried a lifelong dream close to her heart: to become a doctor and help heal and uplift the lives of others. Today, thanks in part to the support of a Sertoma Deaf and Hard of Hearing Scholarship, that dream is steadily becoming a reality. With each step forward, she moves closer to making a meaningful difference in the world.
Molly Prendergast, a native of Oskaloosa, Iowa, is currently a student at Iowa State University, where she is ambitiously pursuing a double major in biochemistry and music. Her passion for both science and the arts reflects a well-rounded commitment to understanding and connecting with others.
After completing her undergraduate studies, Molly plans to attend medical school to fulfill her lifelong goal of becoming a physician. She’s already gaining valuable hands-on experience, having recently shadowed a surgeon at her local hospital—an opportunity that deepened her interest in the medical field and affirmed her dedication to patient care.
While she says that she has had her share of struggles living with hearing loss, she feels incredibly lucky to be part of a community that supports its fellow members living with the same condition.
“I recognize the immense commitment of time and resources it will take for me to realize this dream,” Molly said. “Your generosity will help me reach my goals in this next phase of my life.”
Sertoma International is proud to support inspiring deaf and hard of hearing students like Molly through our scholarship program. We’re also committed to helping graduate students pursuing degrees in hearing health fields such as audiology and speech-language pathology—hoping they will one day join us in our mission to serve and empower individuals living with hearing loss.
