By Jason E. Camis, IOM, Sertoma Executive Director
As we move toward the end of the fiscal year, there are two important updates out of the International Headquarters in Kansas City that we want our clubs and members to be aware of. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out to me at jcamis@sertoma.org.
SERTOMA INTERNATIONAL ELECTION RESULTS
We are pleased to announce the winners of this year’s International Board of Directors election. Their terms will begin on July 1, 2026, and run through June 30, 2029.
• Chris Huether (Alexandria, MN), Vice President
• Kathy Glenn (Tampa, FL), Southeastern Regional Director
• John Parker (Oak Forest, IL), Great Lakes Regional Director
A total of 699 votes were cast this year, an increase of 61 voters compared to 2025. Huether received 45 percent of the vote in the vice-presidential race, while Glenn and Parker ran unopposed in their respective regions.
We would also like to extend our sincere gratitude to Dennis Saylor (Aiken, SC) and Steve Thrash (Laurel, MS), candidates for International Vice President, for their willingness to serve at the highest level of the organization.
Huether will replace outgoing Executive Committee member and current International President Cindy Markham on the board. Glenn will replace outgoing Southeastern Regional Director Steve Thrash, and Parker will replace outgoing Great Lakes Regional Director Cheryl Pence. The terms of all three outgoing board members will conclude on June 30, 2026.
We offer our heartfelt thanks to Cindy, Steve and Cheryl for their service. Your commitment to Sertoma cannot be overstated, and we are undoubtedly a stronger organization because of your leadership, dedication and countless contributions.
Finally, we’d like to send a special thank-you to Jennifer Mitchell of the Liberty Sertoma Club, who was on hand to help oversee ballot counting. While the Sertoma Executive Director is responsible for managing our annual election, it is standard practice to have a Sertoman present to assist with and observe the process.
THE SERTOMA OFFICE IS MOVING!
We’re excited to announce that Sertoma International headquarters is relocating as of July 1, 2026. Our new address is 20 W. 14th Ave, Suite 135, North Kansas City, MO 64116.
While our most recent location has served us well for the past three years, the growth of our Amplified Hearing Program—made possible through donations of assistive hearing devices valued at more than $1.5 million—has created new space challenges. To accommodate this growth, we have added seven off-site storage units to house these products.
In addition to the monthly expense of maintaining those units, staff must travel off-site whenever an order is received from a club or partner and then make a separate trip to ship the products. These inefficiencies cost Sertoma valuable time and resources that could be better invested in serving our clubs and advancing our mission. This move will bring all of our storage, processing and shipping needs back in-house.
The new office also includes a slightly larger space to process donations to the Hearing Aid Project, which continues to grow. To give some perspective, in 2022 we received approximately 6,000 donated hearing aids; we’re on pace to receive over 35,000 this year.
Located within Elevator Co-Warehousing & Coworking, the new office provides the flexibility to expand (or reduce) our footprint as the organization’s needs evolve. A five-year lease offers the stability we were seeking, allowing us to focus on serving our clubs and advancing our hearing health mission. The Sertoma office is funded primarily through proceeds from the building fund established following the sale of the former Sertoma headquarters at 1912 E. Meyer Blvd. a few years ago.
We would also like to extend our sincere thanks to Sertoman Dave Robinette of the Darrell Bland Sertoma Club, who provided
contractor services to help build out our new office space. Dave did an outstanding job, and we are grateful for his attention to detail and timely completion of the project.
If you’re ever in the area and would like to see our new digs, give us a call; we’d love to show you around!
