Limited mobility can often result in social isolation, making it difficult for individuals to fully experience the joys of the outdoors. To tackle this challenge, Cycling Without Age Littleton (CWAL) created a nonprofit organization dedicated to offering a liberating
solution: free trishaw rides that bring the "wind in the hair" experience to individuals from all walks of life. CWAL isn’t just about getting people out of their homes—it's about reigniting a sense of freedom and connection with the community. By offering these rides, CWAL provides much more than just a leisurely outing; they deliver significant physical, mental, social, and psychological benefits that help passengers reclaim a sense of joy, independence and camaraderie.
Past Club President David Oppenheim witnessed the magic of a trishaw ride up close when his sister had the chance to experience one last summer. The joy she felt was so contagious that he shared her story with his fellow Sertomans, many of whom have enjoyed the complimentary excursion themselves.
Moved by these heartfelt experiences, the Sertoma Club of DTC decided to channel their support into a meaningful cause. The club dedicated their most recent Club Grant to CWAL, ensuring that even more individuals can experience that same sense of freedom, fun, and connection.
The gift was presented at a special dinner, where the CWAL team was warmly welcomed to share their inspiring story. Executive Director Barb Lotze and Director Lauren O’Connell took the stage to highlight the organization’s incredible growth and expanding outreach. Their passion and dedication to making a difference resonated deeply, as they shared how CWAL continues to touch lives and enrich the community. According to the club, the evening not only celebrated a generous donation but also underscored the profound impact CWAL is having on individuals of all ages in their shared community.
