NYU Student’s Program Aims to Help Programs Like HAP Serve Seniors

Through Sertoma’s work with the Hearing Aid Project (HAP), we have the awesome opportunity to connect with individuals and organizations from all walks of life united under one common cause: helping others receive the gift of hearing without financial barriers.

Enter Zachary Klinger. Klinger is an undergraduate student from New York University who founded Hearing Legacy, a nonprofit dedicated to supporting underserved populations through the donation of hearing aids. The program puts special emphasis on seniors that may experience social isolation and marginalization as a result of their hearing loss.

“By enabling the donation of hearing aids, we aim to alleviate this isolation and foster stronger connections within their communities,” Klinger said.

Earlier this year, Klinger worked with Dr. Timothy Osbourne, as well as Charles ENT and Allergy, to collect 140 hearing aids that could be repurposed through the Hearing Aid Project. Hearing Legacy’s goal is to provide a platform for individuals to donate their used hearing aids, Klinger explained, ensuring that the devices can then be refurbished for individuals who might not otherwise have access to them.

“Thank you for your dedication to improving the lives of underserved populations,” Klinger said. I am deeply grateful for your assistance in helping Hearing Legacy achieve its goals.”
