Carlisle Area Sertoma Club Celebrates Annual Fantasy Baseball Camp

For yet another summer, the Carlisle Area Sertoma Club partnered with Primal Sports Charities to host its annual Fantasy Baseball Camp, a cherished event that gives deaf and hard-of-hearing children an inclusive and barrier-free experience built around America’s favorite pastime.

Thanks to a Sertoma Club Grant received last fall, the club was able to sponsor 15 campers and their adult chaperones for a day at the local AA baseball stadium, according to Club Secretary Maureen Williams. The outing included a picnic lunch, where campers, chaperones, Sertoma members and volunteers came together for food, fun and fellowship.

Williams shared that the grant’s impact went far beyond just the day at the ballpark. It also helped fund vital components of the camp experience, including uniforms, awards and — crucially — the services of an American Sign Language (ASL) interpreter to ensure full communication access for all participants.

The long-running camp, which is open to kids aged 5-15, found a new home this summer at MacPhail Field on the campus of Dickinson College. The event continues to be a highlight of the summer for many local families, providing not only a unique opportunity to engage in sports but also a supportive environment where communication and community go hand-in-hand.

The Carlisle Area Sertoma Club has been an essential part of its Pennsylvania community since 1988. Visit CarlisleSertoma.org to learn more about the camp and other programs supported by the club.
