It’s National Speech-Language-Hearing Month!

Communication shapes how we connect and belong. May is National Speech-Language-Hearing Month (formerly known as Better Hearing & Speech Month), and it’s more than just a date on the calendar for us. It’s a reminder of the work we do every day to support hearing health and the people behind it.

Hearing loss affects millions of Americans, often quietly and gradually. When it goes unaddressed, it can touch nearly every part of life. Raising awareness matters, but so does taking action. But what does that look like in Sertoma communities?

At Sertoma, we strive to focus on practical, people-first efforts that make a real difference. Here are some simple ways you can be part of it:

• Change lives directly by collecting hearing aids for the Hearing Aid Project, where they are refurbished for those who otherwise couldn’t afford them.
• Protect hearing early by helping people understand everyday noise risks through SAFEEars!®
• Strengthen local support by connecting with community-based hearing health organizations through our Affiliate program.
• Invest in the future by supporting Sertoma Scholarships, which assist students in audiology, speech-language pathology, and individuals with hearing loss pursuing higher education.
• Make hearing health a priority by scheduling a check and encouraging others to do the same.
• Share resources from Sertoma, HLAA, ASHA, Hearing Health Foundation, World Health Organization and other reputable organizations. Start conversations in your community while supporting programs that expand access to care and education.

This work is at the heart of who we are. It’s a testimony to our passion for Service to Mankind. Together, we’re building stronger communities. You make us #ProudToBeASertoman!
