Libraries provide a vast array of valuable community services, but for those living with hearing loss, they are not always able to enjoy the same experiences as their hearing peers. Recognizing this need, the Waccamaw Sertoma Club partnered with the Horry County Library System to support accessibility initiatives in their local South Carolina community.

These initiatives are designed to enhance participation in a variety of library programs, including book clubs, children’s storytelling sessions and guest lectures. The club worked with library staff to choose the right equipment to meet the needs of both youth and adults while staying within their estimated $2,000 budget. They even found a portable system that allows for flexible use across multiple library branches.

The club ultimately chose a Williams Sound Personal PA Assistive Listening System, which includes one transmitter and four personal receivers. The club contributed additional funding to purchase more receivers, allowing the system to accommodate up to 10 participants.

“The equipment has been fully purchased and is now in active use at the Conway Library, where it is helping create a more inclusive and engaging experience for community members with hearing challenges,” said Club Secretary Brent Barker.
